Students and schools selected for state-wide agriculture grants

Des Moines, Iowa – Area students have received grants to support the integration of agriculture into classroom instruction.

The Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation announced Monday afternoon 165 grants were given to schools to help teachers initiate new projects or expand existing ones to promote agriculture literacy.

Jennifer Thompson of Nashua-Plainfield, Theresa Knutson and April Schmitt of New Hampton, James Green, Kelly Popp and Shelia Shulz of St. Ansgar and Evie Mildbrandt of Turkey Valley received the money.

The grant is designed to fund innovative lesions, activities, classroom resources, guest speakers, outreach programs, field trips and other projects.

The projects will be completed before the end of the school year with final reports submitted by June 5.

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
