Suit dropped against retired OB-GYN doctor

Mason City, Iowa – A medical malpractice suit against a Northeast Iowa doctor has been dropped.

The lawsuit filed by Terra Gaffney against retired Mercy OB-GYN Stephen Thorn has been dismissed without prejudice on January 30 in Cerro Gordo County District Court.

The lawsuit says Thorn committed an unconsented and not medically indicated physical touching of her during a prenatal visit on October 4, 2017.

Gaffney, a Rockwell resident, alleged Thorn and other unidentified women made disparaging remarks about Gaffney’s metal health and past medical treatment on a voicemail, according to the Mason City Globe Gazette.

A court date was scheduled for January, but the ruling allows Gaffney to file another suit on the same grounds in the future.
