2A District 4
The Osage Green Devils and the North Fayette Valley Tiger-Hawks were the only teams in the area to battle on the hardwood. Osage continued their season dropping North Fayette 67-37 in last night’s 2A District 4 tournament.
Brett Bobinet netted 15, Jarett Scharper bagged 13 and Elijah Bluhm collected 12. The Green Devils improve to 14-7 and advance to play Crestwood Thursday. North Fayette finishes the year 14-8.
Northern Iowa coach Ben Jacobsen says the Panthers need improved defense as they get ready to host Illinois State on Wednesday night. The Panthers scored 77 points in a loss at Drake and 71 in a home loss to Bradley last week.
Jacobsen says both opponent last week played well on offense.
The Panthers are 5-7 in the Valley and 10-15 overall.
Drake senior forward Nick McGlynn has been a key in the Bulldog’s surprising run under first year coach Darian DeVries. The 6-8 McGlynn scored 22 points in Saturday’s win over UNI and surpassed one thousand points for his career.
Drake leads the Missouri Valley in scoring and one of the reason is there ability to get quality shots before the defense can set up.
The Bulldogs visit Southern Illinois on Tuesday night. DeVries says a concern is Saluki point guard Aaron Cook, who averages more than 11 points per game.
Drake is 18-7 overall and 7-5 in the Valley.
