Energy company announces support for bill evening consumer costs

Des Moines, Iowa – MidAmerican Energy announced its support for legislation allowing advances for energy policy supporting customer fairness Wednesday afternoon.

The Solar Options Lead to Affordable Renewable Act or SOLAR eliminates the shifting of electric grid costs from those who can afford  private solar to all other customers and gives them more options for connecting solar to the electric grid.

Building, operating and maintaining the electric grid are recovered through a monthly energy charge.  Customers who own solar and generate their own energy don’t pay as much- or any energy charge.

Customers on average pay $328 for use of the grid.

The bill does not affect any tax subsidy or net metering, which is banking excess energy to help offset their bill.
