Numerous roads were closed or impassable on Sunday across northeast Iowa after a strong winter storm moved through the area Saturday night.
Iowa officials closed Interstate 35 between Ames and the Minnesota border because of blowing and drifting snow. The storm dropped several inches of snow on central Iowa, but parts of northwest Iowa received as much as 16 inches of snow.
Charles City picked up 7.4-inches of fresh powder, New Hampton saw 5-inches and Mason City registered 8-inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.
With winds gusting to 55-miles per hour, blizzard conditions shutdown Highway 63 north of New Hampton to the Minnesota boarder, along with Highway 218 from Clear Lake to Nashua.
Many churches also canceled their Sunday services because of conditions.
