City residents will see tax levee increase as council approves budget

Charles City, Iowa – Charles City residents will see an increase on the city’s tax levee after the council approved the city’s budget at Monday evening’s meeting.

City Administrator Steve Diers calls the next budget a “good one.”

The levee rate increased 7 cents to $15.90.  The city will have expenditures of over $40 million dollars in fiscal year 2020.

Diers says the increase in the rates are due to major projects like fiber-to-home, waste water treatment and city transit.

The increase amounts to 0.44 percent in the levy rate.

Councilman DeLaine Freeseman:

The levee rate does not include other levy rates like county or schools.
