Charles City inching closer to sump pump ordinance change

Charles City, Iowa – Charles City is one step closer, allowing residents to connect their sump pumps into a subdrain or the storm sewer.

At Monday’s City Council, they had the first reading of an ordinance changing city code.

City Engineer John Fallis says the change eliminates individual approval.

The code establishes a 1.5 inch discharge line and placement of necessary valves and inspection of the connection.

The ordinance also requires the property owner to make the connection if the discharge water is creating nuisance.

The amendment would need two more readings before being adopted.
