Riceville native selected for middle school opening

Charles City, Iowa – The Charles City School District announced Joseph Taylor as the new middle school principal Thursday afternoon.

Taylor is the middle school principal and athletic director at South Hardin in Hubbard.  Taylor was selected from a pool of 35 candidates.

He led changes to increase math and reading proficiency on Iowa Assessments, decreased student behavior challenges and increased parent teacher conference participation by 34 percent, according to release from the school.

“Charles city is the perfect place to raise my family with its big, small town feel and lovely atmosphere,” the Riceville native said.

He added he felt a strong sense of belonging and connection when he visited with staff and students.

Superintendent Mike Fisher says Taylor’s passion and love of education is evident.

Taylor’s hire will need to be board approved at the March 18th meeting.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
