Supervisors approve purchase of department vehicles

New Hampton, Iowa – The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors approved the purchase of two squad vehicles for the sheriff’s department.

A Dodge Ram pickup truck and Charger will be added to the fleet around July for nearly $52,000.

They would replace two vehicles that have accumulated nearly 300,000 dollars.

Sheriff Marty Heman says his department is under budget and could use some of the surplus to offset costs.

Heman added the vehicles were in next year’s fiscal budget.

He proposed two other options, a Dodge Durango and Chevy Silverado.  While the board discussed purchasing two pickups, they decided to go with the recommendation.

He says the pickup truck is better suited for wet conditions, while the Charger suits other needs like civil papers and patrols.
