Head-on collision between semi, car leaves three injured

Calmar, Iowa – Three people were injured after car crashed into a semi head on south of Calmar Wednesday morning.

Driving northbound on Highway 24, 62-year-old Mary Hegg of Decorah crossed the center line, striking a 2014 Western Star semi driven by 61-year-old David Fadness of Decorah, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

After the collision, Hegg’s 2012 Toyota Camry continued striking the rig until the rear duals.  The semi came to rest on the roadway with the trailer in the ditch facing south, while the Camry rested on the roadway.

Hegg was transported by helicopter to Gunderson Hospital; 63-year-old John Hegg and a minor were also injured.

There is no update on the status of the injuries.  The crash remains under investigation.
