Mitchell County ISU Extension and Outreach receives grant to promote ag via virtual field tris

Des Moines, Iowa – The Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation announced Tuesday it’s giving Mitchell County’s ISU Extension and Outreach a $1,000 grant for a ‘FarmChat.’

The program will take students on a virtual field trip to a farm or agribusiness.  Students in the classroom will interact live with a farmer via video conferencing platform.

“By coupling the virtual farm tour with a  fun, hands-on learning activities supported by the 4-H model, do reflect-apply our hope is youth will create a memorable learning experience that will last a lifetime,” said Olivia Logue of ISU Extension and Outreach Mitchell County.

Nearly 1 in 5 jobs in Iowa is in the agriculture industry but most Iowans have no direct connection to agriculture production or industry and the once-a-month-program will help raise awareness.
