Winterinks recognized as entrepreneurs of the month for work with Red Cedar Lodge

Charles City, Iowa – The NIACC John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center and the North Iowa Area  SBDC announced Tom and Lorraine Winterink of Red Cedar Lodge as the April 2019 Entrepreneurs of the Month.

The Winterink’s started rebuilding the farm 11 years ago after moving back from Phoenix.  Tom, a Charles City native, grew up near the property and after a visit sparked an idea to bring life back to the overgrown area.

They demolished and reconstructed three log-sided vacation cabins featuring luxurious amenities, cleanliness and its peaceful location.

While Tom and Lorraine have focused on growing their own business, they’re also insightful entrepreneurs who keep their eye on the big picture.

“We believe and understand the movement of people from urban lifestyles to small town America,” Tom said. “Iowa is poised in the best position in the country to attract these people and if we want to grow Iowa and her small towns, we should market to those in America’s largest cities hungering for a simpler lifestyle.”

The Red Cedar Lodge has been recognized as the Outstanding Lodging Property by Iowa Tourism and was featured in a national article as ‘The One Place to Visit in Your State in Winter.’

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
