Floyd County looking into creating ATV/UTV ordinance

Charles City, Iowa – Floyd County officials are starting the leg work to create an ordinance for ATV and UTV vehicles on county roads.

Sheriff Jeff Crooks:

Crooks, the Supervisors and County Engineer Dusty Rolando began discussing what is needed to create something allowing for the use of ATVs and UTVs on county roads at the supervisors meeting Tuesday.

Rolando says he’s indifferent and open to putting an ordinance in place.

Sheriff Crooks says his department doesn’t see much damage to roads.

There isn’t an ordinance in Floyd County; riders must abide by state law.

Cerro Gordo and Mitchell Counties have ordinances, but their policies differ according to officials.  Chickasaw County does not have one.

Supervisor Linda Tjaden says a draft needs to be drawn up to narrow the focus.

Officials didn’t mention when an ordinance may be ready to review or vote on.
