New Hampton fundraiser utlizes good food to offset lunch balances

New Hampton, Iowa – In its second year, New Hampton School District’s cinnamon roll fundraiser is not only filling stomachs, but its offsetting negative lunch balances for students.

Food service director Jodi Cerwinske says money raised from selling the warm and gooey delight will be used to pay negative lunch balances.

Next Wednesday at the elementary school and Thursday at the high school, the food service department will be selling $1 cinnamon rolls, you can order in advance too.

Lunch balances range from negative $1,100 to $2,000 according to Cerwinske.

She says federal code states there can’t be a negative balance and last year, the fundraiser put them in the green.

Cerwinske added she hopes to involve students in the future as the event gains popularity.

She says if balances are paid, money could go to other places.
