Geerts apologizes for comments about full-time EMT employees

New Hampton, Iowa – Chickasaw County Supervisor Steve Geerts apologized earlier Tuesday morning regarding a comment he made about full time EMTs.

“I just want to make an apology publicly,” Geerts said. “I did make a comment and I asked Jeremy (McGrath) what the EMTs would be doing in their off time 80 to 90 percent of the time. It was kind of a joking remark about playing cards.”

The comments were made at an ambulance council meeting Monday night.

“What will they be doing when they’re not running ambulance calls? Are we going to pay them to play cards?”

He said he spoke ‘off the cuff.”
