Charles City adding new, safer equipment to Washington

Rubber surface and handicap accessible equipment to arrive soon

Charles City, Iowa – The Charles City School District is investing in safer, more accessible playground equipment for its students at Washington Elementary School.

Principal Kara Shannon says the new equipment will feature pieces like a handicap accessible slide.

New construction will eliminate tall structures, which aren’t handicap accessible or safe, according to the school.

Shannon says after early changes, the design should be friendly to toddlers to 10-year olds.

Total project cost is almost $175,000, which is under budget by $75,000.  Officials tell North Iowa News the remaining funds will be used for new fencing and cement.

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
