Slinger signs with Cornell, state track and field starts tomorrow and Buena Vista ready for regionals

Charles City senior Colton Slinger signed his letter of intent yesterday to further education and play baseball in Mount Vernon’s Cornell College.  The senior is a four-sport athlete.

Last season, Slinger hit .378 with 20 RBIs, seven doubles and 34 hits.

The 2019 State Track and Field meets start tomorrow morning at Drake University in Des Moines.  Hourly updates begin at 9:30 tomorrow and will run until the last area athlete has competed.  They will end Saturday.

Three Iowa teams prepare for the NCAA Division III baseball regionals this week. American Rivers Conference Tournament champion Buena Vista will travel to River Forest, Illinois and play top ranked Concordia-Chicago in Friday’s opening round.

The Beavers allowed only one run in three games at the conference tournament.

That’s Buena Vista coach Steve Eddie. The Beavers have won 13 of their last 14 games and went 3-0 at the league tournament.

American Rivers Conference regular season champion Coe and Midwest Conference champ Cornell both take part in a regional in St. Louis.

Coe plays Aurora while Cornell opens against fifth ranked Washington University of St. Louis.

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
