UPDATED: Man who ran from police Sunday has been arrested, charged

Charles City, Iowa – Charles City Police apprehended a man Wednesday evening in connection with a chase through Charles City on Sunday.

An arrest warrant was executed in the 600 block of 11th street where they took 22-year-old Cortavious Benford into custody after a short foot chase.

According to police records, he was wanted on charges as a result of Sunday morning’s police chase, which include several traffic violations, excessive window tint, interference with official acts and eluding law enforcement.

One person has been arrested while another remains at large after an early morning chase through Charles City on Sunday.

The Charles City Police Department says an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop at Blunt Street and North Main Street just before 1:30.  The vehicle fled from officers on South Main Street and pulled into a parking lot of an apartment complex in the 600 block of 11th street.

After a foot chase, officers apprehended 23-year-old Robert Coffer of Charles City and charged him with interference with official acts according to police records.

A warrant has been requested for the driver who was able to flee from the vehicle.
