Charles City, Iowa – Charles City is one of two Iowa towns to be officially designated age-friendly by AARP.
Mayor Dean Andrews says the city has been piloting the program since October and submitted their application a month ago.
AARP defines a livable community as a safe and secure place to live and have affordable housing and transportation options for senior citizens.
Andrews says the city will have a ceremony to honor its accomplishment.
The organization picked Charles City based on many factors, like infrastructure and accessibility but mainly because the city is home to more than 600 senior citizens.
