Mexican taco trailer’s booming popularity due to love of food, family and passion for people

Charles City, Iowa – Not many of us would think construction mixed with cancer, sprinkled with a little bit of faith could cook up the perfect taste for Barbara and Maria’s Tacos.

Owner Jessica Rivera is serving up the combination in her authentic Mexican food trailer, which has been widely known as the area Mexican food truck.

Rivera worked in construction in New Hampton before being diagnosed with cancer.

The recovery prompted her to switch from construction to the kitchen where her family’s become the main focus.

Rivera told North Iowa News she’s part of an eight-member family so cooking on a large scale didn’t faze her when she started a year ago.

It’s a good thing she has experience because she sold out both Saturday and Sunday.

She serves your choice of chicken, steak and even tongue tacos plus tortas, burritos and several other Mexican classics.

Rivera says she thinks they sold out because it provides another eating option in the area, and understands the stakes are high.

She calls Charles City her hometown and plans to serve the community regularly with stops in New Hampton.  You can visit Maria’s Tacos on Facebook for more details.

She’ll be open at the Farmer’s Market Wednesday night.

I bet if you stop for that perfect taste you’ll understand why Rivera says every meal is made with love.

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
