The New Hampton golf team is in Marshalltown at the state golf meet.  After day 1, Ryan Anderson is tied for sixth after shooting seven over. Justin Reinking shot 12 over and is tied for 28th, Connor Hackman is tied for 31st with a 13 over par, Wyatt Stochl is tied for 44th.  Hunter Pesek is tied for 48 and Alex Kriener is 55.

New Hampton is sixth as a team.


The fourth-ranked Charles City Comet softball team improved to 3-0 last night after sweeping the double header against Crestwood 6-3 and 2-0 in eight innings.

The New Hampton Chickasaw softball team is another undefeated area team after sweeping the Decorah Vikings in an NEIC double header.  The Chickasaws won 12-3 and then 12-0 in three innings.

The North Butler Bearcats dropped their first game of the season to Central Springs 7-1.

Turkey Valley and Rockford battled on the diamond last night.  The Trojans were looking to rebound after losing to Charles City and Rockford wanted to extend their winning streak.  Rockford outlasted the Trojans 11-9 after blowing a 9-2 lead in the sixth inning. The Trojans closed the gap to two, but the Warrios added two insurance runs in the seventh.  Makayla Heit picked up three RBIs.

After losing their opening game, Osage rebounded with a 6-4 win over Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.  Ashley Halback picked up the win in the circle.  She gave up three hits, walked four batters and sat down five.

South Winneshiek is 2-0 after pounding West Center 19-5 and 15-5.


Rockford and Turkey Valley dueled on the diamond last night shutting out the Trojans 12-0.

North Butler picked up a 9-3 win over Clarskville.  The Bearcats trailed 3-0 heading into the final frame, but they posted eight runs.  North Butler is 2-1.  Clarksville is 0-3.

The Crestwood Cadets blanked North Fayette Valley 10-0 in six innings last night.

Iowa and Nebraska’s clash in the Big Ten Baseball Tournament is postponed until today after inclement weather hit Omaha last night.  The Hawks and the Huskers will begin battle an hour after Ohio State and Maryland finish their game, which starts at 10.


The most decorated women’s track and field athlete will compete at the U-S Championships in Drake Stadium in July. Allyson Felix will compete in the 400 at the national meet.
