Summer festivities return to Charles City, Clarksville with community celebrations

Charles City, Iowa – Several communities across Northeast Iowa are kicking off summer with celebrations this weekend. For some it might be a three-day event while others summer begins with a 17-year tradition.

Charles City’s Party in the Park is back and according to chamber director Mark Wix it begins with a throwback to the 80s.

He says buzz begins back in January with people inquiring about the summer event.

Wix says to pull off five shows every two weeks during the summer months, it takes planning year-round from the a committee whom volunteer their time.

The next Party in the Park date is June 14.

Another community who’s jumping into the summertime fun is Clarksville as they kickoff their three day event called Pioneer Days.

Mayor Val Swinton says the festivities kick off Thursday morning at the library.

Golf, history exhibits, concerts, parades and an all-class reunion are on tap for the community.

Swinton calls this weekend a community celebration.

He added some things have changed like a different main street with Dollar General construction continuing along with City Hall.

The parade will have a new twist, too.

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
