Winneshiek County authorities make another river rescue

Decorah, Iowa – The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s office made another river rescue Monday afternoon, the third in the last month.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office spotted a family in distress on the Upper Iowa River near Pole Line Road and Highway 52 just after 12 p.m.

Officers say two grandparents who were ages 63 and 54 were tubing with their granddaughters who were 5 and 13 years old.  The family was hung up on a down tree in the river.

The grandmother reportedly made it to a nearby sand bar.  The Decorah Fire Department helped bring the other three to safety.  No injuries were reported.

The grandparents are from Davenport and the granddaughters are from Bettendorf.
