The Score Sheet AUDIO: Comets heading back to state, area baseball scores

The third-ranked Charles City Softball team is flying high into Tuesday’s state tournament game in Fort Dodge after thumping Mason City 11-1 in five innings in last night’s regional final.

The Comets are going back for the fourth consecutive year.

Head Coach Brain Bohlen says preparation before the game became the key.


The Comets racked up nine hits, three RBIs from Rachel Chambers and Allie Cross who both collected solo shots.

Bohlen says after two first-inning errors, his team responded.


Senior Sami Heyer threw another no-hitter and gave up one un-earned run.

She called last night an amazing experience.


She says attitude will make the difference in Fort Dodge.


34-3 Charles City will meet Dallas Center-Grimes Tuesday at 3:30.


New Hampton keeps its postseason run alive after blanking Lake Mills 3-0.  Keegan Kane and Max Babcock combined on the mound for the win.  The 26-9 Chickasaws will meet Osage in the district final Saturday night at 7pm.

The Green Devils clawed their way out of a 5-0 hole to steal an 8-5 win over Forest City.  Gavin Schaefer and Brett Bobinet combined for the win on the mound.  Osage improves to 18-6.

Saint Ansgar ends Rockford’s season at 15-11 after rolling to an 8-1 win.

North Butler is in the district final after edging Janesville 6-5.  The Bearcats face Saint Ansgar Saturday.  North Butler is 12-9-1.

South Winneshiek is onto the district final after edging Kee High 3-2.  The 27-9 Warriors will face MFL-Mar-Mac or Wapsie Valley .
