Charles City’s fiber-to-home project closing in on final steps

Charles City, Iowa – A decision for the Charles City Council on whether or not to approve a fiber optic system bringing high speed internet, phone and other utilities is inching itself closer.

City Administrator Steve Diers says they’re close to reviewing the business plan.

The plan came with a $380,000 price tag, details on where the cable runs, locations for its headquarters and other details.

Diers says one way of off-setting the $11.5 million project is to find investors.

The final decision still lies with the city council as they will review the plan and decide to approve the next step.  City officials say the project’s goal is to spur economic development.
