The Score Sheet: Comets capture district crown, Clarksville moves into semifinals

The Charles City Baseball team captured their first district championship in a decade after bounding Wavelry-Shell Rock 7-3 in the district championship last night.

The Comets have earned their substate birth Wednesday night at 7pm.  They face #1 Cedar Rapid Xavier for a chance at the state tournament.  The broadcast will follow Charles City softball.

Saint Ansgar bounded North Butler 13-5 in the district final last night.  The Saints face South Winneshiek tonight for a chance at the state tournament.

State Softball

The Clarksville Indians shut out Bishop Garrigan 5-0 in the first round of the Class 1A state softball tournament yesterday.

Kori Wedeking had her no hitter broken up with two outs in the seventh but third ranked Clarksville survived.

Wedeking struck out 11 and walked non to move her record to 28-1.

Wedeking says it helps her pitching to know the offense will get her runs.

The 32-1 Indians meet 33-6 Lisbon in today’s 1A semifinal.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
