Fayette County car accident results in 66-year-old’s death

Car accident in northeast Iowa

Northeast Iowa – Another person has died in a car accident in Northeast Iowa, this time in Fayette County Wednesday afternoon just before 2.

The Iowa State Patrol says 19-year-old Melody Hewitt of Oelwein failed to yield at the intersection of West Avenue and Iowa Highway 3 near Oran. That’s when 66-year-old Charles Meyers of Edgedwood’s 2002 Mack Truck struck Hewitt.

Authorities say Meyers wore his seat belt, but died. Hewitt sustained injuries and was transported to Mercy Medical Center-Oelwein.

The accident remains under investigation.

The names of the individuals who were involved in a run over accident south of Plainfield have been released.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 67-year-old Kathryn Ann Krukow of Waverly, drove over a juvenile, whose identity hasn’t been released.

The juvenile had fallen underneath the 2014 Chevy Silverado and died from injuries.
