DNR continuing to investigate Floyd County fish kill

Charles City, Iowa – Pollutants are a suspected cause of a fish kill in a tributary of Flood Creek about four miles west of Charles City.

The Iowa Department of Natural resources is continuing to investigate the cause of dead fish reported to the agency Wednesday.

A release says tests didn’t show elevated ammonia levels and live fish were seen along the affected two-mile stretch suggesting the contaminants moved down stream.

DNR officials say “whatever killed the fish had come and gone by the time we got there.”  They added another agency learned about it Tuesday, the DNR Wednesday.

Report spills and fish kills to your local DNR field office or call 515-725-8694.
