Charles City – Last night in Central Park was the National Night Out event for the police station and fire station alike.
Children lined the sidewalks in order to pick up free school supplies like backpacks and shoes and of course to meet the people who protect the area’s streets. Brandon Franke, a Captain with the Charles City Police, says it is always a great community opportunity.
Hunter Ortmayer, another officer, is also focused on the meeting the children, but for a specific purpose.
Ortmayer says the events goal should always be to change the perception of the people who are paid to protect you.
And Lorie Barber, a member of the Floyd County Emergency Response Team, has gone the last couple years and says it is one of her favorite events of the year.
