Viral social media post aids in recovery of stolen signs

Charles City, Iowa – A social media post is to thank for a swift return of stolen property over the weekend.

That’s Charles City resident Jermey Heyer who lives on fourth avenue and says he had more than 15 softball signs stolen from his yard Friday night.

He says their neighbor saw bits and pieces of the vehicle and the suspects and alerted Heyer immediately.

After unsuccessful attempts, Heyer says he couldn’t let not knowing where his signs were go, so he decided to post to Facebook about the details.

All said and done, Heyer estimated the time from when the post went viral to when the signs were returned were less than two hours.

When asked why the Comet state softball signs are so important to him and his family he told North Iowa News they are more than just corrugated cardboard.

According to Heyer, he says he’s not sure if he wants to put the signs back out or not.
