Floyd County Supervisors to join meeting for ambulance service solutions

Charles City, Iowa –The ambulance service crisis is now hitting Floyd County only months after Chickasaw County found its solution.

Supervisor Roy Schwickerath updated the board Monday morning of what is being done to provide the service county-wide.

He says the city of Charles City, Floyd County Medical Center and AMR are all meeting to discuss options.

According to Schwickerath, AMR is contracted to serve Charles City and the St. Charles Township but only staff’s a second crew for other calls outside of the area depending on current calls.

Two of the main problems that’s been brought up in both counties is financing and limited staff.

He says regardless of current challenges, there is still service.

Supervisor Linda Tjaden says they need to understand the “true need” for a viable solution.”

Officials plan to meet Wednesday to find a solution.
