Charles City selects Dubuque based company for multi-million dollar water facility

Charles City, Iowa – The city of Charles City has selected a Dubuque-based construction company to build its $16.8 million dollar wastewater treatment facility.

Lance Aldrich with Fox Engineering says the bid from Portzen Construction came in below the $17 million projected cost


Also included in the project is the replacement of the Chautauqua lift station and it will be renamed the Gilbert Street Lift Station. According to Aldrich, it will double the current capacity.

He says the life span of the plant will be 20 years.


Aldrich added the plant is upgraded for Iowa DNR standard which could affect its lifespan. 

City Administrator Stever Diers says the passage of the plans for the plant and the construction company, ends two, on going years of discussion.


Portzen Construction has built facilities in Oelwein and North Liberty recently.
