The Charles City school board Monday night awarded Woodruff Construction of Waterloo the contract for the Baseball and Softball Field and Improvement project for a price of $2,054,997.67. However, this low bid came in a bit higher than the engineer’s estimate and with the acceptance of Woodruff Construction’s offer, could cause the school system to be in the red on the project until January of 2021.
That was Jason Walker, Vice President of the Board of Education, who was concerned about this increase in the bid price. Regardless, Tim Moreau of Veenstra and Kimm, reassured the board Woodruff Construction has had some positive reviews.
Moreau, says the increase in bid price is a result of the project’s timeline being as early as the fall.
The board says depending on how many students are registered with the school system over the next couple of years, could help or hurt the bottom line on the project.
