New trial denied for Decorah teen found guilty of murder

Decorah, Iowa – A new trial has been denied for a Decorah teen who was found guilty of second-degree murder.

The Waterloo-Cedar Fall Courier reports 18-year-old Jacob Taylor Seelinger requested a new trial Tuesday after he alleged the verdict didn’t represent evidence presented in court.

Authorities say Seelinger and 19-year-old Dalton Adam attacked David Hansen in July 2018 knocking him unconscious.  Hansen was Seelinger’s mother’s boyfriend. He never recovered and died of injuries.

The paper says the trial for Adam is pending and his case is scheduled for next week.  Sentencing for Seelinger is scheduled for next week in Winneshiek County.
