Charles City firefighter dies from injuries in August crash

Charles City, Iowa – A Charles City firefighter who was involved in a motorcycle crash last month has died.

The Charles City Fire Department reports 34-year-old John Carpenter died Monday from injuries sustained in a crash in Mitchell County on August 25.  

The department says “We want to extend our heartfelt sympathies to John’s family and friends in this very difficult time.”

The Iowa State Patrol reported Carpenter and 32-year-old Ashley Carpenter were trying to drive around a left-hand curve at West Main Street and East Commercial street in Mitchell  when they lost control of the 2016 Harley Davidson .  

Ashley Carpenter was ejected and landed in the west ditch while John Carpenter struck multiple trees before being ejected in the west ditch and the motorcycle landed on top of him.
