Charles City woman gets 25 years in prison for attempted murder

Charles City, Iowa – A Charles City woman who’s convicted of attempting to kill her mother has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Court documents say 45-year-old Jennifer Katherine Bean was convicted of attempted murder in August after injecting insulin into her mother without consent.

Bean apologized Monday during the hearing saying “I wish that day never happened.”

She injected the insulin on Nov. 6, 2018 and it caused the victim to have a low blood sugar and left untreated would’ve led to a coma with may have resulted in death according to the criminal complaint filed.

Iowa law calls for Bean to serve up to 70 percent of her sentence.
