Prichard weighs in on Grassley as new Iowa GOP leader

Charles City, Iowa – Iowa’s top democrat is weighing in on the newly elected speaker of the state’s House of Representatives.

Todd Prichard of Charles City says the announcement of 36-year-old Pat Grassley to the post didn’t come as a surprise.

Grassley is the grandson of U-S Senator Chuck Grassley.  He was elected as the G-O-P leader Monday.

Prichard says he looks forward to working with Grassley on a number of issues including agriculture and healthcare in 2020.

Grassley served with Prichard on the agriculture committee when they both began serving in the mid 2000’s.

Grassley takes over for former speaker Linda Upmeyer who isn’t running for reelection in 2020.

Prichard says stability is good in the top leadership roles, but a high turnover rate can be positive.

When asked whether Grassley’s relationship to his grandfather would help, Prichard laughed and said “it certainly couldn’t hurt.”

He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
