Charles City city council 12-2-19 meeting preview

A city council meeting will be held today at City Hall in Charles City at 6 p.m. The agenda for tonight’s meeting includes a regular public comment section that encourages citizens to address the governing body on something not listed on the agenda. Under business of the Mayor, there will be the swearing in of a new police officer and the reappointment of members to the Historical Preservation Commission.

Since this week marks another rendition of the annual Holiday Lighted Parade, the council will be discussing both the closure of the street for the event and whether to extend a fireworks permit to the revitalization team.

The meeting will conclude by running through five ordinances and resolutions for the city – including the establishment of the utility board for the Charles City Municipal Telecommunication Utility. This is one of the few remaining steps the board must approve as the broadband internet project slowly inches its way towards installation in the area.
