Power Snack program still fighting childhood hunger in Iowa

Iowa Select Farms and the Deb and Jeff Hansen foundation partners each year to combat childhood hunger in the state of Iowa. This program is known as Power Snack and distributes pork sticks, deli meat, and whole wheat bread to over 125 schools around Iowa.

The Power Snack program is used to feed children at both Lincoln School in Charles City and St. Joseph’s Community School in New Hampton. Iowa Select has identified four problem times where children find it most difficult to stay nourished and according to marketing director Allyson Ladd these are: Thanksgiving, winter, spring, and summer breaks.

Other area schools that participate are Osage community schools, Riceville, Rockford, Saint Ansgar, and Nashua Elementary.
