Thelma Taylor was born July 12, 1928, in Stillwater, Minnesota, the fourth of eight children born to Emil and Dorothy Taylor. She attended school in Bassett, Iowa and Charles City High School. It was there she met the man who would be her life’s companion for 66 years, Marvin Vorhes Kellogg. They were married on September 21, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua in a double ceremony with Thelma’s brother Jesse, and his bride, Avis Wright. Wife and mother was the role Thelma was born to play and she excelled at all of it. She was a spotless housekeeper, terrific cook, raised a huge garden (weed less, of course), tended to six children, and still could help with farm chores if needed. Among her specialties in the kitchen were her baked beans, stuffed peppers, apple bars, her Christmas popcorn balls, and homemade chicken noodle & dumpling soup.

She and Marvin could often be seen on the dance floor on weekends and had their own style of dancing. They loved to travel in their motorhome and made it to many of the states, including Alaska. They also enjoyed fishing in South Dakota and Canada, and in later years she looked forward to their annual trip to northern Minnesota, with their oldest son and grandson.

Thelma was an avid crocheter and at one time had made an afghan for every member of the family. She made many name doilies, but her most special project was the baptismal gown she made for her youngest granddaughter, who she was able to be flower girl at her wedding.

She looked forward to seeing her grandchildren and great in their plays, programs, and volleyball and softball games.

Left to mourn her passing are children: Richard (Linda) Kellogg of Fort Dodge, Luella Kellogg of Charles City, Judy (James) Hunn of Charles City, Randy (Barb) Kellogg of New Hampton, and Sharon Bormann of Charles City; grandchildren: Brian (Cris) Kellogg of Bellevue, Brad (Stacy) Kellogg of Floyd, Greg (Kristen) Kellogg of Charles City, Jennifer Watkins of Shasta Lake, California, Jackie Hunn of Banning, California, Heather (Brian) Tank of New Hampton, Matt (Mandy) Kellogg of New Hampton, Cassie (Dan) Belay of Cedar Rapids; 17 great grandchildren, with one on the way in April 2020; 6 great great grandchildren; sisters: Pauline Tupy of Nora Springs, and Beverly Kollman of Wabasha, Minnesota, and many nieces and nephews.

Waiting to welcome Thelma in heaven are her parents, Emil and Dorothy; husband, Marvin; daughter, Dorothy Kellogg; grandson, Garrett Bormann; great granddaughter, Kadyn Jade Halverson; siblings: Gerry Reed, Ruth Smith, Jesse Taylor, Betty Lou Brown, and Calvin Taylor.

Chris Berg

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
