New Hampton and Decorah communities and schools band together to help injured state trooper

Two communities have come together to help out the family of a Decorah man injured in a fall.  The New Hampton Tribune reports that Joel Rochford of Community Insurance of Iowa in New Hampton, decided to donate $5 for every point New Hampton scored during the New Hampton vs. Decorah boys and girls basketball games, and put it towards a fund for injured Iowa State Patrol trooper Jared Rude. 

Rochford issued a challenge to Decorah businesses to match the challenge which rallied 18 other businesses to match the offer.  Once the point totals were in stone, it accounted for over $10,000.  

Rude is a Decorah trooper fell while working at home in early December, and hit his head resulting in a traumatic brain injury. This sparked the community to give back to the family.

New Hampton businesses included: Community Insurance of New Hampton, C&E Lane Lawn Care, Chickasaw Ambulance Service, Holthaus Chiropractic/Holthaus Construction, Tri-Mark Corporation, Bodensteiner Implement-New Hampton, and Mike & amy Locke.

Decorah businesses included: Finholt Construction, Mabe’s Pizza, Decorah Electric, Johanningmeier Stone, V&V Insurance, Steve’s Car Care, Dental Associates of Decorah, Decorah Bank & Trust, Bodensteiner Implement- Decorah, Iowa Rotocast Plastic, and Grizzley Coolers.

New Hampton and Decorah schools also helped with the donation efforts as their match-up brought in another $900 of help, for a grand total of over $11,000.
