Charles City fiber-to-home FULL update

Fiber-to-home has become almost an overly discussed topic in Charles City over the last decade – when considering the lack of concrete progress. But after the telecom board purchased the 813 N. Main Street location for  $190,000 early this year, the new infrastructure refueled the ongoing conversation. The building will work as the data head-end for all things broadband and beyond.

City Administrator Steve Diers fully expects a fledged-out business plan and funding-ask to be completed and sent out by early April – or as early as mid March.

The end of summer should mark the completion of the wiring process; fall people will most likely begin the process of signing up for the services.

Fiber-to-home is associated with a ton of benefits. One being the download speed in local homes will skyrocket. It also has the tendency to raise home-values by almost 2%.
