Osage’s BIG week: wrestling, girls and boys basketball UPDATE

This year, Osage athletics were able to garner what Superintendent Barb Schwamman calls the ‘trifecta’ in sports – i.e. winning the Top of Iowa Conference in the big 3 – wrestling, boys basketball, and girls basketball.

Here is an update on what all 3 teams have done so far (as of 2/28):

Osage wrestling went up to Des Moines last week with a ton of hope, but still many believed West Delaware would take home the top-prize trophy. Both Nick Fox (120) and Spencer Mooberry (170) wrestled for a state championship and lost, but somehow the team came up with the top honors – a real storybook ending to the long Osage championship drought.

Boy’s basketball came into this week’s game with the top player in the Top of Iowa Conference, Jonah Bluhm. They also played all season with a stellar defense and high expectations.

The sub-state spout vs. Forrest City this last week was grungy and thrilling.

Considering a rising stock, girl’s basketball won their game and head down to Des Moines next week for the conclusion of the trifecta’s state battles.
