New Hampton father arrested; charges with murder of child

The Charles City Police Department began an investigation on August 3, 2019 which involved a possible child abuse case against a 3 ½ month old baby. The child was taken to Floyd County Medical Center for treatment, transported to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, and subsequently died on August 4, 2019.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was contacted to assist with the case and worked with the Charles City Police Department during an extensive investigation.

On March 9, 2020, the Charles City Police Department, along with the New Hampton Police Department arrested Shane Michael Morris from New Hampton who is the father of the child. He was arrested on the charges of Child Endangerment resulting in death, which is a Class B Felony and Murder in the First Degree, which is a Class A Felony. 

Morris is currently being held in the Floyd County jail awaiting an initial court appearance.
