Before everybody forgets, today is a pretty popular European holiday – St. Patrick’s Day to be exact. But social distancing and cancellations is making the celebration of said holiday almost impossible. It continues as the Charles City St. Patrick’s Day Parade is rightfully cancelled due to recent coronavirus concerns.
This event has been held in Charles City for 26 straight years, but as of 2020, this streak is snapped. As the Charles City council didn’t allow a street permit this year.
Many of the councilmen wondered if an outside event might be okay with the ability to spread out and adhere to social distancing rules – but the city, and most other entities in Iowa have seemed to be following the day ole mantra: “Better safe than sorry.”
