Charles City schools full UPDATE (3/30) (Food service, Spirit Week, virtual student meetings)

The calendar is inching towards Charles City school’s planned reopening date of April 13th – as advised by the governor. With President Donald Trump extending the social distancing guidelines until April 30th, this could see an update in the near future. Until then, the Charles City school system sent out their coronavirus newsletter to keep the community informed.

Free food services for Charles City children are continuing to be offered between 3/30-4/3. One should fill out a form if they plan on picking up any meal this week:

The release reads: “This service will run from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. Please enter Washington Elementary from 16th Avenue, follow the direction of the signage and those working. Pickup will be on the north side of Washington Elementary and exit to North Grand Ave. There are two stops to make before you receive food. If you travel by car, please STAY IN YOUR CAR.”

The school system has also been promoting ‘Charles City Spirit Week’ which runs from 3/30-4/3 where students are asked to take and share photos of themselves with a particular theme:

Spirit week will also showcase a ‘spirit cruise’ where the school teachers, facility, and families will be driving their cars around town on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

The school says: “The route will start at the middle school and end up at Maple Heights, so stand in front of your house, stand at the corner, or stand somewhere along the street and wave at all of the adults who miss seeing you.”

And finally virtual student meetings will be happening on Thursday throughout the day. Students will be provided with information on prom, graduation, and grades.

Schedule on Thursday:

10th Grade: 1:00-1:45
