UPDATE: Charles City schools (food program change)

The word is out: May 4th for the Charles City school district to resume classes. And many believe that estimate would even be a blessing. Last week, Gov. Reynolds announced Iowa schools would not need to make up schooling after April 13th as long as they produced online learning opportunities for their students – which CC schools plan on doing.

After April 13th, the food service (who hand out breakfast and lunch everyday) will be cut down to Tuesdays and Thursdays. There will still be 10 meals distributed to students, just in a shorter two day period.

A release reads:

“We are instituting this to make sure our workers and participants in the food service program stay safe by limiting the amount of contact everyone has and so that everyone stays safe and healthy. This is also a convenience factor so families do not have to drive each day to get food. We appreciate your understanding as we work through the best practices while dealing with COVID-19.”

The Backpack Program will be handed out on Thursdays as well.
