60,000+ Iowans apply for unemployment (March 29-April 4)

Job less; laid off. This is the fate of many Americans – of many Iowans. Between the days of March 29th and April 4th, 67,334 Iowans applied for unemployment benefits. This saw the stay paying over 27 million dollars in benefits.

The following industries had the most claims.

  • Health Care and Social Assistance (9,632)
  • Manufacturing (9,218)
  • Retail Trade (8,088)
  • Accommodation and Food Services (7,123)
  • Construction (2,696)
