Floyd County father to stand trial for child’s death

A year ago a child died under a Charles City father’s care – on August 3rd that father will stand trial facing a 1st degree murder charge.

According to KIMT, 25-year-old Shane Morris is pleading not guilty to the 1st degree murder and child endangerment of his kid Zander Morris.

The Charles City Police Department reported that on August 4th, 2019, the 3 and a half month old child died the day after he was watched by his father. The previous day, the child suffered a skull fracture that the courts deemed as likely ‘non-accidental’. Shane told authorities he had no idea about the injury – until admitting the fracture occurred when he was carrying Zander and slipped, resulting in the baby’s head hitting the edge of a kitchen counter.

Zander was airlifted to Mayo Clinic where he ended up dying. The Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death as a homicide.
