Charles City’s water tower on Corporate Drive is set to undergo a full paint job and repair after the city council finalized the plans and awarded the bid on Monday. L&T Painting out of Michigan, will be recoloring the water tower for the prime price of $221,180 – beating out 11 other bids.
The job was estimated to cost the city between $237,000 (engineers estimate) and $260,000 (city’s budget). The actual price was well under these parameters .
The paint job will entail two city logos on either side and will read ‘Charles City’ in big bold letters.
The full project was decided as necessary by Cory Spieker, the Water Treatment Plant Superintendent, after the water tower had gone its allotted 15 years without any upgrades.
The original tower built in 2004 cost $1.3 million to assemble. Spieker originally predicted the tower would be painted by Spring 2020.
